Just Hit Record

I built my first website/journal (pre-blog) using HTML in 1995. I helped create one of the first video-hosting platforms for Warner Bros. called “15 Seconds of Fame” for Entertaindom.com years before YouTube was around. My first CMS-driven blog was on Movable Type in the early 2000’s. I started my first podcast in 2005.

Yet, when I decided to start this blog (again) I was apprehensive, and even more so when I decided to start a brand new YouTube channel from scratch using my own name. If you are interested you can check it out at https://www.youtube.com/c/troyrutter.

Why did it take me so long to “get back to basics?”

I knew too much.

I knew the hard work and dedication it would take to get traction – if it ever did. I have been to countless social media conventions (BlogWorld, New Media Expo, Social Media Marketing World) and video conferences like Vidcon and have listened to the best-of-the-best give panels, critiques, tips, tricks, upsells and more. I knew all the physical techniques and I also have a journalism degree from Iowa State to back it up.

Yet I was scared.

Scared to hear the crickets.

Scared to get that “thumbs down.”

Scared looking at the calendar and realizing the path to growth was so far out there it seemed unattainable.

But if you never start something, you never get there.

This blog and my new video channel are what I am passionate about. Not just now, but ever since I signed up for the very first Amazon Affiliate program back in the mid-1990s. I even started a website in the early 2000s, makingcoin.com, which would probably be worth a lot these days thanks to Crypto Currency now that I think about it.

But my passion now isn’t just creating passive income for ME. It’s teaching others how to do the same.

I’m not perfect. I’m learning. And I’m not making millions of dollars a month or even hundreds of dollars now that I am starting again. But I am sharing my knowledge and experiences with others. We’re on a journey. Every single person who watches one of my videos did so wanting to learn something. Either that or be entertained. But every single click on every single video is not only earned but a privilege.

I’m glad you are here as we try to do something Greater. Greater Income, Greater Freedom, Greater Life is my new motto. Let’s build something.
